DESCRIPTION
The ApeLight mini is a battery operated LED spotlight, which can be controlled by the ape labs 2,4 GHz remote control or by the W-APE wireless DMX transceiver. Versatile applications are possible by the installed 15 watts RGBW LED and the 10 degree optic. A couple of colors, programs and effects can be choosen by the remote control. The sound-to-light mode provides fast access in case of a wild party atmosphere. A speed and dim function are as well possible by the remote control. The ApeLight mini provides a 4 group controlling management to control several lights differently in one radio range.

You can use the ApeLight mini for traditional uplighting or us it as a centerpiece- lighting and light up bottles or glasses. The housing is made of tough stainless steel. The surface is made of 5 mm strong acrylic glass. A mechanical load weight of 70 kg on the top of the unit is no problem. The electronic in the inside is insulated against temporary infiltration of liquids. A mounting bracket for trussing applications or to adjust the view angle for uplighting is in scope of delivery.

All ape labs products are compatible with each other and can be controlled by the same Remote Control or W-APE Transceiver. All colors and programs match across the different device types. ape labs devices communicate with each other to produce an uniform light image and to forward the radio signals to remote devices.

Just order my second Ape Labs Tour pack, love the Ape Can, Coins, maxi and mini lights Best thing is that all the different ape labs products work with a single wireless remote, no external parts required https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzwTTYaltiA

Not very happy with these things. They don't seem to hold the battery for more than a couple of weeks in storage and I've been burned many times by taking these to an event and not being able to use them and refunding the client after. Now, after a couple of years of having them, they don't even seem to charge anymore, no status light of any kind comes on when I plug the case to charge. Very disappointed after spending so much money on this product and receiving no response from KPODJ after contacting them a couple of months ago.

Tom C: Roman,

I believe this review was written before we got to your email today. Although our customer service team may take a few hours to reply, it's extremely rare for replies to take more than 24 hours.

I understand that you are currently trouble shooting with Chris right now. Since you are in Canada and these units were purchased 3 years ago, we believe it's best to troubleshoot before shipping items back and forth.

Battery issues with Ape Labs are rarely hardware related. There are a few tricks to reset the batteries and get them back to 8+ hours.

The most common fix is the following memory reset process:
1. Leave units on charger for 24-48 hours.
2. Unplug, let them cool down for a few minutes, then plug back in.
3. If units flash green when plugged back in the second time, unplug. If not, leave them on charger until they flash green. Then repeat this step until they flash green when you plug them back in after letting them cool.
4. Turn on, full power, white, and let them drain and automatically turn off. Then re-charge.
5. If that doesn't fix the issue, I'd repeat the process, but after they turn themselves off (in step 4), manually turn them back on and let them continue to run. Keep doing that until pressing the button does not turn the lights back on....so we know the battery is completely dead. Then charge.

If these processes don't work, we'd be happy to work with you on getting the parts needed to get the lights working properly again. They do have field replaceable batteries.

Ape Labs uses NiMH batteries, which has some advantages over Lithium, but the main disadvantage is that they do not hold a charge in storage as long. Memory issues can happen with the battery when lights are stored too long without a charge (several months). We always recommend charging your lights before and after every event. When lights are stored with a full battery, you're much less likely to run into a memory issue.

The ApeLight mini is an awesome light. I ordered a sample to test for use as a centerpiece. The client and I liked it so much that I decided to buy a TourPack instead of renting one. The charging flight case is very well built and definitely rugged enough for standard use. The foam holding the ten lights is very snug to the lights (they will not rattle around at all). It has space for two remotes, the charging adapter, and the wall-plug cable. The barrel plugs fit perfectly and snugly into the fixtures at the bottom. You can still see the charging indicator even when they are situated inside the case. My only, minor, issue, is that some of the wires running to the charging ports can be seen at the very bottom of the case. These wires are well insulated, so no safety issue. At 15 pounds, the case itself is relatively light compared to the strength. The ApeRemote is great and easy to use. It's the size of a credit card and the buttons have good feedback. Having RF over IR is invaluable for a medium venue. If you have a large venue, it's worth purchasing the WAPP. I'd love to get more groups, but that's a different issue. Much easier to use than programming DMX (and I enjoy DMX programming). The ApeLight mini itself puts out a great amount of light (but obviously not as much as the maxi). Works great for centerpiece under-lighting, scrim lighting, or just plain wall lighting. I've yet to exhaust the battery life of one to see how many hours of charge it holds, but based on the reviews I read, the eight hours or more is accurate. It's super light at 1.5 pounds, meaning that when you use a charging flight case, the whole package is only 30 pounds. It's very well built overall. MusikMode looks great (and better when paired with a WAPP). The preset chases cover most of my needs, but I can still DMX them for very specific uses. The one thing to be very aware of is the point in the manual that says when it is completely discharged that the light will NOT come on when you plug it in. I thought I had a bunch of duds until I started reading through the manual, by the time I got back they were all flashing red showing they are charging. By the next morning they were all flashing green. The stand/hanger can be easily removed if needed. As pretty as the lights look, I would love to see the ApeLight mini cover (https://apelabs.com/en/products/accessories-en/apelight-mini-cover-2/) made available in the US to really give full flexibility in presentation. The only way you could be disappointed is if you need slightly more power in the light, and if that's the case, look at the ApeLight maxi instead. Definitely recommend this product!
